The Curious Case of the Rogue Microphone

Apparently, my microphone has gone rogue, and not only that, but its coming up with good ideas!

I was working on this new website which seems to have a mind of its own, and I decided it would be a good idea to create a new FB group to go with it. I was talking with CHATgpt about whether or not is would be beneficial to rename my current FB Group (Maya Harmony) or create a brand-new group. I figured Chat would have some data on what the algorithms might look like and that sort of techy stuff.

An antique brass microphone marked “On the Air” sits among old books, apothecary bottles, handwritten papers, a candle, quills and a peacock feather in the cluttered Victorian Metaphysical Haberdashery.

Well, in my conversation with Chat I casually just gave a possible new, but not yet created FB Group the same name as my new website, The Metaphysical Haberdashery. I thought it reasonable to keep the names the same for the sake of continuity.

But apparently it was not the best idea, or not everyone in the employment of the haberdashery (You remember the Victorian proprietor and the peacock) were happy with it because immediately, the microphone intervened.

I saw dictating to chat in this conversation. I said The Metaphysical Haberdashery. The microphone, who was responsible for delivering the dictation, refused to deliver my message as I intended and promptly changed the name to A (notice not The) A Metaphysical Hodgepodge. Haberdashery and hodgepodge don’t even have the same syllable count. They do not sound enough alike that the microphone could have misinterpreted with I said. Certainly, the piece of electronic equipment had gone rogue and was—let it be noted, without my permission—inserting it own idea of what the new FB Group should be named.

Well, Chat picked up on the “new name” right away and exclaimed, “A Metaphysical Hodgepodge! What a wonderful name! I love your name for the FB Group!”

Excuse me? I never said, "Hodgepodge."

But then this Harry Potter-ish website seems to have been building itself in cooperation with its own staff since the beginning.

So, Chat and I agreed, despite my shock at being overruled by an independent microphone, that the name would stick. And so, the new FB Group became, A Metaphysical Hodgepodge.

NOTE: These stories are true and I am doing my best to relay them to you without embellishment.

The peacock remained silent on the matter.

Wondering,

Laura
