a journey through folk magic and consciousness
There is an ancient idea called Wyrd. Imagine creation as an immense weaving, a living web of threads continually crossing, touching, changing, and becoming. We are not standing outside this web looking in. We are woven into it. Every experience, every choice, every encounter, every mystery becomes another thread, and when we touch one part of the web, something somewhere else may move.
The Metaphysical Haberdashery is a place to explore that web.
Here we will wander between ancient magic and modern explorations of consciousness, following the threads wherever they lead. We may find ourselves working with runes and bind runes, tarot and divination, old spells and sacred symbols. Another thread may lead us into remote viewing, out-of-body experiences, Mindsight, psychokinesis, altered states of consciousness, or experiments that ask us to reconsider what we think we know about ourselves and the reality around us.
I am especially fascinated by the places where these worlds touch. Human beings have been exploring consciousness through magic, ritual, divination, dreams, trance, symbols, sacred places, and extraordinary experiences for thousands of years. Today we are finding new ways to explore many of these mysteries, with new language, new experiments, and new questions. I want to place those ancient and modern worlds beside one another and see what happens.
This will not be a journey with a tidy destination. It is an exploration. I will share things I have experienced myself, practices I have studied, people I have learned from, places I have traveled, experiments I have tried, books that have sent me tumbling down unexpected rabbit holes, and things I am only beginning to understand. Sometimes we will look backward. Sometimes we will look toward what is being explored right now. And sometimes we will simply try something and see what happens.
Because beneath all of these strange and wonderful subjects lies a much more intimate question:
Who am I, and how am I connected to the world around me?
Perhaps that is what following Wyrd is really about. Touching one strand of the great weaving, feeling something move, and becoming curious enough to follow it.
There will always be another question, another mystery, another doorway.
The reader never quite reaches the end of the path. They simply find another thread.
