The Day My Website Developed Opinions

I think my website has a peacock running things, an eccentric store proprietor, and a rogue microphone in charge of building it. In truth, the whole process has become very Harry Potterish.

It all began when I was working on building a new website (I know that seems boring but wait till you hear what happened). The working name was We Walk Between Worlds. It was meant to be an expansion of my other site Maya Harmony which is about the magic in Mexico’s Yucatan (of which there is a lot!) But apparently, I had the wrong name, and the site was about to tell me so.

I was working with CHATgpt (he helps me with editing and technical details) and we were having a conversation about the idea of WYRD. Wyrd is an old Celtic philosophy about reality being woven of threads, a bit like a giant spider web where everything connects to everything else. I was planning to use the idea in my website because I want to explore magic, consciousness, and energy from viewpoints of traditions all over the world. I was looking for a way to connect it all together so reading it did feel like trying to pick up an elephant with octopus arms.

Well Chat started giving me all these ideas with words about threads, Pull a Thread, Follow a Thread, and such until I mentioned that I thought the thread idea was taking over the website. At that point Chat made a joke (that really made me laugh) about ending up with A Metaphysical Haberdashery.

In all honesty I wasn’t even quite sure what a haberdashery was, but it struck me as very funny.

Well after a bit of research I discovered a haberdashery is a store with lots of things for sewing, thread being one of them--you know, little drawers full of buttons and ribbon and odd bit of things for the ornamentation and creation of fabric creations. And a Metaphysical Haberdashery…well use your imagination, what do you think you might find in a store like that? Little drawers full of metaphysical things, perhaps a MindFold, things you need for remote viewing, an astrolabe, tarots cards, a pendulum, some off contraption for measuring energy waves, all manner of oddments associated with expanded states of consciousness and folk magic. Can you picture it?

And then I felt it. The website was making it very clear to me that it did NOT want to be named, We Walk Between Worlds. It had somehow used AI and my curious sense of humor and adoration of connections to tell me in no uncertain terms that it much preferred the name The metaphysical Haberdashery complete with the “thread” of Wyrd (pronounced weird) running through everything!

And so, the site was promptly renamed  . . . and then there was the peacock and the proprietor…. You’ll have to read the next blog post to learn about that!
