Your Home Is Your Temple: Florida Water & Bind Runes

When I clean my house, I cleanse its energy. Sweet smelling, citrusy Florida water, usually reserved for cleansing candles, crystals, and spaces intended for magical purposes, is my main tool. I spray it lightly over the floor before I sweep. I allow its tiny essential oil infused droplets to cover my kitchen and bathroom counters before I wipe them down. I mist it over my bed before I sleep.  (You will notice my bottle is not fancy, and the rune writing is very simple...the thing about magic is that it isn't about fancy, it is about intention)

Your space is sacred. We tend to think of setting aside special areas for ritual, but your entire home is your temple. It holds you, protects you, and feeds you. You rest and work and play in this space and it carries energy.

Rather than reserving my Florida water for a few things I might call sacred, I realized my entire home deserves to feel its cooling essence. Its mix of blessed water and oils cleanses energy, removes stale vibrations, and refreshes the vitality of your home.

And when you add a bind rune to the bottle it’s in, you magnify it power.

So, let’s talk about how to make this lovely water, how to magnify its potency, and how to activate it.

It’s simple a fun. All you need is clean water, essential oils, paper and pencil (colored pencils if you like) tape, and a clean spray bottle. The water can just be from the tap, but its more fun (and potent) if its from a pure water source, a nearby bubbling river, clean lake gathered under the moon, a cenote or fresh spring. Or you can even use tap water or drinking water and put it out under a new moon or full moon or under a special rising constellation or planet alignment.

It really isn’t important exactly how you charge your water, it’s the intention. What feels good to you, and what feels fun and exciting, will be the right thing.

Then you pour you water into a clean spray bottle and add a few drops of essential oils.

Next, you draw a bind rune on a piece of paper, cut out the paper so it will fit nicely on your bottle and secure it with tape.

Finally, you activate your water by singing over it.

Then it's ready to use to bring lovely fresh energy into your home.

ITEMS NEEDED

• A clean spray bottle

• Clean water, possibly charged under a moon or planetary alignment

• Essential oils. Create a combination from orange, sweet orange, orange blossom, bergamot, lemon, lime, lemongrass, clove, cinnamon, rose, rosemary, lavender, gardenia, or ginger. No need to use all of these, just the ones that call to you and you have available.

• Paper

• Pencil or colored pencils

• Scissors

• Tape

NOTE: Most commercial Florida waters use a high alcohol base content. I find this not only affects the smell, but can be flammable, drying, and can damage items you might want to spray it on. This is why I use water instead. The oils and water won’t mix, but no matter, just give it a good shake every time you use it.

DIRECTIONS

1. Fill your bottle with water

2. Then take time to smell each oil from your collection. Decided which ones speak to you and add 5-10 drops of each (note: clove is strong and will need less)

3. Draw your bind rune with pencil. Pencils are wood and closer to nature, so they can have a more powerful magical effect. Runes are old Norse symbols with meaning. When you draw them on things, those things take on the energy of the meaning. Below you will find a list of runes that are great for your home along with their keyword meanings and a couple of suggestions for how to combine them. The word BIND (pronounced with a short i) means simply binding two or more runes together. That way you can have both protection and joy or the sun and wealth. Don’t worry, I will demonstrate.

4. After you attach your bind rune to your bottle, sing over it. Singing is vibration and lovely words like home and joy and peace and wealth just sung in your own made-up song will charge your water and change its vibration.

   
   

When you are finished, anytime you are ready to cleanse something give it a good shake and spray lightly on the surface you are cleansing.

Store in a cool dry place and use often.

note: Odin is often called Ansuz... Elder Futhark Runes

 While there are a total of 24 runes in the series of Elder Futhark runes, I just chose some that I thought you might like to bring their energy into your home... Example, there is a rune of destruction...while that might be great for going into war or pulling down a spiritual stronghold, it probably isn't the energy you want to be spraying all over you home!

 A bind rune is simply binding two or more runes together into one symbol. That way you get the energy of both (or all three!) Here are a few examples of how you can create your own pattern by drawing two runes together. There is no right or wrong way to do this, just pick two or three runes that hold the energy you want to bring into your home and create a design that combines them into one element. I suggest you practice on a separate piece of paper until you come up with a pattern that you like, that feels good to you, and then draw it with pencil on the paper you will tape to your bottle.

A note about singing: You voice carries vibration. In fact, it IS vibration--air, that has been vibrated by your vocal cords. So, one of the best ways to change the vibration of something is to use your voice. And when you speak lovely words with intention, you create beautiful vibrational patterns that can be photographed in ice! Use a strong voice, be firm in your intention. And sing your own made-up song to your Florida water to activate it...of course you can sing over it every time you use it too!

Note: If you are going to spray this on something that you are not sure if the water or oils could damage it, do a little research and then test a small corner first. Most of the time oil and water will not harm you things, but some things are sensitive to these elements.
